TIL about the Bouba/kiki effect.
When presented with two shapes, one curvy and the other spiky, and asked which one is called "kiki" and which one is called "bouba," people more frequently assign the name "kiki" to the spiky shape and the name "bouba" to the curvy shape.
This association between sounds and shapes, first reported in the 1920s, suggests that the naming of objects is not completely arbitrary.
