Total relaxation in the summer

A wonderful weekend at the countryside. Summer. August. This time, I didn't do much in the garden. I just relaxed. This is a new kind of vacation. Previously, I spent a lot of time in the garden and did various things there. And now I'm completely relaxing. Summer. The garden is in its place.

Alice and the Rabbit V everyone's having fun

The train rushes off into the distance again. A kind green train. And Alice runs into the field. Her arms spread wide. This field. Such a kind place. Where they live the kindest friends kind little animals. Here lives a grasshopper, a mole, and, of course, a rabbit. Who loves to drink tea.

Promise Mascot Agency: Absurdist Adventure RPG Romp Thing

Some indie games are naturally more insane than others. Promise Mascot Agency fits the bill lovingly there. Its by UK-based devs Kaizen Game Works and their game launched back in April 2025 (out on all consoles and PC).

It styles itself like a Japanese absurdist, surreal, manga type jaunt. The player works as a mascot recruiter where you go around a cursed town saving the day, which features all sorts of bizarre happenings. Hurray Yes, its nuts fun.

The Berserk Charms of Promise Mascot Agency

This game may appear excessively weird from a surface level overview, but it actually turns out to be a super wholesome and delightful time of it.

Its an open world adventure game with RPG, narrative, and mascot management sim elements. Players take control of Michi (a yakuza fixer type dude) who befriends Pinky. Shes a mascot of a severed living finger with a baby face, one who also has anger management issues.

Michis goal is to revive a mascot agency to support the local community.

To do that, you drive a small pickup truck and must speed around a Japanese city in the open world element, where you unravel various local conspiracies and the like. You also complete jobs in Grand Theft Auto fashion, develop your reputation, and revel in how incredibly weird everything is.

From there, a . You meet all sorts of wonderfully bizarre mascot creations (a very real thing in Japan for every location), and guide them toward greater things.

Behold Kaizen Game Works gameplay explainer video below for more details. Youll probably need to hear it as Promise Mascot Agency is an oddball time of it.

The whole thing is basically Grand Theft Auto but with a heaping wodge of insane Japanese kawaii culture stuff over the top. And thats a very great thing a lot of the time.

Absurdity and all that to one side, its a fun game. If this sort of Nippon type madness is your thing then youll have a whale of a time here. We did the game very amusing, too, which helped. And its a unique take on the GTA format.

If you want something a bit less ridiculous, though, you may struggle with it. Plus, despite its best efforts, Promise Mascot Agency can feel a little aimless at times. The driving mechanics are, seemingly bad on purpose, also a bit strange and it can get frustrating.

However, overall we had a much fun with this. Theres about 10 hours of gameplay when you get stuck into it for the main story, but plenty of stuff around that to keep you occupied.

Youll know from the trailer whether you want to give it a go or not. And if you do, just hurl yourself on in there and go with the flow. Its all very odd, but then you must already like that type of thing as youre a Professional Moron reader. Huzzah!

Promise Mascot Agency, Ahoy! This One Has a Jazz Fusion Score

A quick nod to the games soundtrack here. Kaizen Game Works even went all out with the games score, which was by Japanese composer Ryo Koike.

Its that particular type of breezy Japanese music thats 1970s Shwa-era Japanese jazz fusion. That means a lot of funky basslines, vintage synths, jazz flutes and the like. Its an acquired listen and not for everyone, but we like the below Misfits Make It Work.

Now, we happen to hate jazz fusion and find it stunningly pretentious.

Most of the time, anyway, but this particular Japanese variety has that oddball quality to it we kind of like. Its background music, basically, which is why the devs put together this 60 minutes Kaso-Machi studying vibes video for students and working professionals.

Not 100% our cup of tea, we must admit, but notable for the commitment to Japanese authenticity here.

We thought Promise Mascot Agency was, surely, going to be by a Japanese indie dev. Nope! Its by English people like us, which adds a nice bit of clout to the whole gameplay package.

Future Knight: Fixed Image LCD Platforming Fun and Games

If you remember those stupid Tiger Electronics LCD handheld things from the early 1990s, then you were around in the early 1990s. Now, Spanish indie game studio Aeternum Game Studios has gone and done a platformer using that distinct graphics style.

Future Knight takes the fixed image printed onto a handheld screen look of the old LCD games. And it adds in some fancy new modern gaming sensibilities, too, so its a more complete experience.

Tiger Electronics Meet Future Knight!

This is out now on Steam only and is styled like a run and fun type platformer of yesteryear. The genre was very popular in the 1990s. Here you take control of  a robotic hero and your goal is to stop a cult from doing its thing.

Into the frantic action you go to shoot stuff, take out weird bosses, and race around in the air on a hoverboard type deal. Oh, and its all set in a retro-futuristic 1993 version of Tokyo.

Future Knight stands out thanks to its liquid crystal display look. As if youre staring at a calculator, but not.

However, the devs were also inspired by Japanese animator, artist, and director Satoshi Kon who was notable for his bizarre, faintly disturbing work. And that really comes across in some of the concepts the game has (particularly the grotesque boss battles). Behold it in action!

Future Knights attention to detail is impressive, theres always something fancy going on with the visual flair. Playing it, youre always on the lookout for some new quirk.

The soundtrack is pretty unique, too, offering some intriguing work by the composer Salvinky. Previously, theyd worked on the score for the (2021). This is one of our favourites (Either Hours Before).

As for the gameplay with Future Knight, its frantic stuff and only lasts around two hours overall. We think thats best, as the gameplay can get a little bit repetitive.

Overall, great fun little title. Its designed to not outstay its welcome, but also dazzle with its unique approach to modernised-retro graphics. The very best of indie gaming creativity! Even if this isnt an all-time classic, it still delivers a memorable blast.

We really enjoy reading manga and comic books for fun. Reading was always a way to get out, since we couldn't afford to be world travelers.
That lead to having read this in our 9 to 5. Apparently reading comprehension has become hard.
